Fire and Brimstone. A sympbolic description of where the wicked will spend eternity. Joseph Smith said, “A man is his own tormenter an his own condemner. Hence the saying, They shall go into the lake that burns with fire and brimstone. The torment of disappointment in the mind of man is as exquisite as a lake burning with fire and brimstone. I say, so is the torment of man” (History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 6:314). According to LDS Beliefs: A Doctrinal Reference, “Most all suffering of this kind will take place in hell, within the premortal spirit world. When the price of suffering has been paid, the uttermost farthing rendered, the disembodied spirit will be released from suffering to participate in the last resurrectin and be assigned to a kingdom of glory.” The article explains that only the sons of perdition who sinned against the Holy Spirit will spend eternity in hell.
